Unexpected break

June 30, 2010 at 8:29 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Oh wooooow. No workout yesterday. No workout today. If I do anything tomorrow, it will be a light walk. And yet I lost 6.5 pounds (ish). You might be wondering how.

I caught the most vile stomach bug EVER. And oh, was it special experience. I hardly ate anything at all yesterday. Today I ate a few bites of oatmeal, a cup of applesauce, and then a bit of mild Chinese food for dinner. Today, it has managed to stay in the digestive system and actually move through it by following the normal digestive course.

Got to work this morning, and EVERYONE is commenting on how much weight I’ve lost. Uh…thanks? Yeah. Also worked from 7am to 6pm with a 1/2 hour lunch. Will do the same tomorrow. Friday will be 7-5 with a 1/2 hour lunch. Yay ability to make up hours, but…I’d rather have sick pay. >_<

So hopefully all will remain well tonight. Hopefully next week I will be able to start up the exercise programs again.

Huzzah! Day 10 of the 30DS is finally in the books!

June 28, 2010 at 5:51 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Oh man, oh man, oh man. I was so disappointed Friday. My legs were killing me. I tried to jog and just couldn’t. I couldn’t do it. Well, Saturday, with the support of the Shredheads (visit their website on the right!) and my wonderful boyfriend, I went to have my gait analyized so I could get a pair of shoes.

I was surprised to learn that the problem wasn’t really my arches (though it’s related). They’re holding up good and strong (everyone suggesting I have an extra bone in each foot is gaining evidence, lol). However, I apparently have a tendency to roll my foot when I walk/run, putting a lot of torque on, well, everything. Thus the calves tightened up and then the shins started going nuts. I found a wonderful pair of shoes and a foam roller to help me loosen the tight leg muscles. And then my boyfriend bought them for me, because he’s a sweetheart. =) We took them out for a test run on Sunday, and I seemed to hold up fairly well, aside from my allergies taking over. Apparently breathing ISN’T over-rated. ^_^

So today they were tested even further today. I wasn’t able to run as far today, because it seemed like I was perpetually late. However, check out these results!

AM: 0.86 miles in 8:58, with a pace of 10:24 minutes per mile. HOLY COW.

Lunch: 1.51 miles in 19 minutes, 36 seconds, with a pace of 12:57 minutesper mile. Another improvement!

PM: 0.53 miles in 5 minutes, 30 seconds, with a pace of 10:21 minutes per mile.

JUST by switching shoes, I improved my speed by a fair amount. Oh, and did I mention there was NO pain? Because there wasn’t. ^_^ I made sure to stretch out before and after, and I used the roller thing after my lunch run. I’m so stoked! This is amazing!

Oh, and I finally completed Day 10 of Level 1 for the 30 day shred. Level 2 starts tomorrow!

Body on strike?

June 25, 2010 at 5:26 am (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Well. This is rather annoying. On my morning break, I noticed that my shins/calves were BURNING. And not a good burn. I tried again at lunch yesterday to run. After the first mile, I had to stop. Apparently I’m trying to develop shin splints.

Dang it.

So, Day “10″ has been postponed a bit. Since I promised results, though, here are the stats:

Weight – 148.2 lbs. Boo.

Bust – 39  (-1 inch)

Waist (small) – 31.5 (-1/2 inch)

Waist (belly button) – 32.5 (-1/2 inch)

Hips – 40 (nada)

Thigh L/R – 19.5/18.5 (-1/2 inch each, -1 inch total)

I’m hoping to start back up on Monday. Might need to get some better shoes and/or insoles. I know with my high arches that I probably oversupinate, which leads to a tendency to get shin splints. We’ll see what I can find this weekend.

Short post today!

Jogged at work!

AM break: 0.65 miles in 8 minutes 3 seconds with a pace of 12:21 min/mil average

Lunch break: Cut a bit short due to eating w/co-workers, but I ran 1.84 miles in 24 minutes 21 seconds with a 13:13 min/mil average

PM break: 0.81 miles in 9 minutes 44 seconds with a 11:57 min/mil average

I also completed day 9 of level 1 for the 30DS! Yay!

Day 8! (Day 7 was EATEN!)

June 22, 2010 at 6:22 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Hiiiiiii!

Today is crazy day. EVERYONE is working the database right now, trying to get businesses verified. BLAH. If I hear “DOO DA DOOOP! THIS NUMBER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED OR IS NO LONGER IN SERVICE” one more time…there will be violence.

Homicidal rages burn calories, right?

Anyways! I jogged 3.51 miles at work today. Woooooo! Getting a little hot. I’ll need to find a water bottle or something like that so I don’t dehydrate/overheat. I also completed day 8 of the level day shred. I worked out yesterday, I promise. Actually, did I post yesterday? I don’t remember, and I’m too lazy to check. So there.

Friday should have been day 1 of level 2, but that will be postponed. Don’t worry, I will still be physically active! I’ll jog at work, and the bf wants to play tennis this weekend. Hahahaha, he’s gonna smash me!

Myobi out!

Reboot! Day 6 of level 1!

June 20, 2010 at 7:43 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Hope everyone’s had a lovely Father’s Day.

Woke up early (for a weekend, anyways) and completed level 1 of the 30 day shred. All exercises are now unmodified. Push-ups, squats, everything. Kinda hard to believe I can do push-ups now. Haha!

I managed to eat relatively light, just taking small portions of the meal. Also just had cereal for breakfast/dinner, so hopefully that will help. But man, that pot roast with the carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, and onions? Mmmmmm. Didn’t count calories today. So there.

Sometimes I get so frustrated by it all. I am slimming down. It’s just…slow. It doesn’t help that I’m at that wonderful time of the month where I gain weight even if I just drink water. Ugh. I’m sure that I’ll see some nice results on Day 1 of level 2, though. I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to do it on Friday. I’m heading to the boyfriend’s for the weekend. Maybe I’ll just get up early. (Never fear, I will at least get jogging in that day. He’s very supportive.)

For those of you wondering (since some have asked on Twitter): I have thyroid problems and “undiagnosed issues” that the doctors can’t figure out. It is beyond frustrating to have a doctor tell you they know that SOMETHING is wrong, they just don’t know what. I have hypothyroid symptoms, but my numbers go all over the place every time they’re checked (sometimes they don’t move with an increase, last test I was at hyper levels). The “undiagnosed” issues are sort of in control, due to some diet changes I made in 2008 (I think, anyways). I rarely have my blood pressure drop out on me anymore. When it does  happen, I can recognize the symptoms so at least I’m not passing out randomly anymore. The sleep issues aren’t so much resolved so much as they’re covered up by Tylenol PM, but hey, whatever works, right?

Anyways, in 2008, I decided to try to better my health by improving my diet.  I went from drinking four sodas a day while eating around 1800 calories a day to drinking a soda a week (maybe) and 1300 calories a day (which my doctor actually fusses at me for, saying it’s too low). I went from absolutely NO exercise to walking 4 miles a day.

I dropped a grand total of 0 pounds. That’s right. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.  When I explained my issues with my weight to the doctor I see now, she first thought the same thing others did: I didn’t make enough changes in my diet. I didn’t exercise enough. But when I explained my exact changes, she told me that I was right. I should have lost weight.

But maybe I needed to make even more changes.

In April of 2010 I started the Shred. In May, I switched the walking with jogging. I’ve lost 2 pounds (reliably). Several inches, but just 2 pounds. So while I understand that the Shred is only 20 minutes (technically with warm-up and cool-down it’s 25), when you add the jogging and the fact that I’m still on a diet, it’s rather frustrating.

All’s I can do is continue to exercise, jog, and eat right. I’ll continue going to the doctor and hope that eventually the right balance will be found. Something’s gotta give eventually.

Reboot! Day 5 of level 1

June 19, 2010 at 9:31 am (Exercise!, June Fitness)

I know, I know. I hear you. Wasn’t day 5 supposed to be yesterday? Yes, yes it was. And I did exercise yesterday, jogging 3.4 miles at work. However, I did miss the shredding.

Why?

Yesterday was spent preparing my room to be sprayed with scorpion poison. Sprayed an indoor spray in the room and an outdoor spray around the house. The results? It’s working. We have found a couple of scorpions. Dead scorpions.

Woot!

Today I completed day 5 of level 1 in the 30 day shred. Today is the last day for modified pushups. Starting tomorrow, the entire level will be unmodified (well…I dunno how big that is since EVERYTHING ELSE is already unmodified.

Remember that results will be posted on day one of level 2, which will be next Friday, assuming I don’t miss that day. =)

Reboot! Day 3 of Level 1!

June 16, 2010 at 9:24 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

And another day is in the books! I didn’t get to exercise as much today, due to the “working lunch” (only a working lunch in the sense that I had to go to a meeting – no pay).

Also, my gps cut out on me for two minutes for my morning run. Sooooo…lawl. I jogged on both breaks, however. I promise! My coworkers will vouch for me.

I also got in the third day of level 1 of the 30 day shred (reboot). I’m doing it unmodified, and whoooooooooooooo boy, those pushups. Lawl. They’re hard! Very little range of motion, but I’m doing them!

I’m watching the scale, and it’s going down every day. Part of me wonders if it’s just me finally breaking through the eternal plateau. The other part is saying it’s because of the thyroid. But is it just right? Too much? Still too little? I’ve got no clue. But I’m going to lose as much weight as I can before the doctor lowers the dose.

So there.

^_^

Reboot! Day 2 of Level 1

June 15, 2010 at 6:25 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Well, another day, another bit of exercise completed. Today was exhausting. I don’t know if it was the heat, the humidity, or what. Ah well.

I’m going to share today’s weight because it is EVEN COOLER. 146.6! Is it possible? Have I finally broken the plateau? Not really fair that I started my weight loss journey ON a plateau. But there ya go. Let’s hope it continues!

Today’s exercise:

AM break (9:32 am): 0.77 miles in 9 minutes, 5 seconds with an average speed of 5.07 mph (11:51/mile)

Lunch break (11:19 am): 1.98 miles in 26 minutes, 49 seconds with an average speed of 4.43 mph (13:32/mile)

PM break (3:01 pm): 0.77 miles in 9 minutes, 24 seconds with an average speed of 4.89 mph (12:17/mile)

I also completed level 2 of the 30DS. Woot!

Reboot! Day 1

June 14, 2010 at 5:51 pm (Exercise!, June Fitness)

Woot!

I’m going to share today’s weight, since it is more exciting than yesterday’s weight. 147.2! Muahahaha!

Today I jogged a total of 3.44 miles. Here are the stats:

10:11 am (AM break) – 0.63 miles in 8 minutes, 50 seconds

11:21 am (lunch break) – 2.07 miles in 26 minutes 08 seconds

3:10 pm (PM break) – 0.74 miles in 8 minutes 52 seconds

Yes, AM break was late, lunch was normal (first 20 minutes spent eating/changing), and PM break was late.

It’s starting to get where I really look forward to those jogs. I’m hoping to speed up. I’m sure that will come in time.

I also rebooted the 30 Day Shred. I got stuck on level 2 and started skipping >_<. So now I’m back on level 1, unmodified. Feeling a little winded, but overall pretty good.

Oh, and my heart rate also jumped to 400+bps this morning when a scorpion I was trying to kill used freak ninja skills and jumped on my foot. Fortunately, I survived unscathed.
